Who did it?

Bank robbery. DNA material collected from the crime scene. Two suspects. Who did it?

Lara learned about DNA Profiling and Gel Electrophoresis today through the Canadian Association for Girls in Science (cagis.ca)

Prepping the micropipette:

Obtain DNA from Suspect 1:

Place DNA into gel electrophoresis:

Obtain DNA from Suspect 2 and place in gel electrophoresis. Forensic scientist placed DNA from crime scene.

Plug it in, wait 10 minutes, and voila! Suspect 1 gets nailed. You can see the bands if you zoom.

Way more high tech than when LL did this 20 odd years ago in the Medical Microbiology and Infections Diseases lab at the U of A!

Bike to reservoir and climb a tree

Sunday afternoon bike ride to G Ross Park and the reservoir. The kids found this tree in which someone had built a platform and decided to climb it.
